A skilled angler, hunter and naturalist, Harvey Weil was a passionate conservationist.  He was acutely aware of the critical decline of the natural world and he spent his life supporting conservation and environmental interest.  Few are more deserving of recognition for their work in conservation affairs than Harvey Weil.  After his death in 1995, in his honor, his friends in the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi organized this Award fund to carry on Harvey’s commitment to the conservation of wildlife and marine environments.

Each year the earnings from the Award fund are distributed to organizations whose goals are the conservation of marine and wildlife resources.  A committee of Rotarians and nationally known conservationists select projects which the committee determines will promote conservation in either or both of these important fields.

In addition, each year the Harvey Weil Sportsman Conservationist Award and Professional Conservationist Awards are presented to internationally known individuals who have been leading conservationists in either the marine or wildlife environments.  The recipients are chosen by a select committee of Rotarians and wildlife and marine sportsman/conservationists.  The award is intended to provide international recognition to such individuals and to continue to promote the conservation and environmental interests in the same manner Harvey Weil did during his lifetime.
